WHAT is a Biohazard?
A biological hazard is a biological substance that poses a threat to the health of living organisms. There are 4 levels of disease in biohazards:
- Biohazard Level 1: Bacteria and viruses that can cause even minimal threat, as well as some cell cultures and non-infectious bacteria.
- Biohazard Level 2: Bacteria and viruses that are difficult to contract via aerosol in a lab setting, basically agents that are transmitted through direct contact with infected materials.
- Biohazard Level 3: Bacteria and viruses that have the potential to become airborne + can cause severe to fatal disease, BUT have vaccines/treatments.
- Biohazard Level 4: Viruses that cause severe to fatal diseases with NO TREATMENTS AVAILABLE.
The Symbol
The creator of the symbol wanted something that was memorable but meaningless, so he could educate people as to what it means.
- The symbol is striking + draws immediate attention;
- Unique and unambiguous, not to be confused other symbols;
- Quickly recognizable, easily recalled;
- Symmetric, to appear identical from all angles of approach;
- Acceptable to all people.
WHY do i love Biohazards?
I love science and always have but i became particuarly interested in biohazards as a child. Something was incredibly interesting to me about how nature and natural things could cause harm.
An invisible source of illness and death was so fascinating to me, along with radiation (which is why I have a page on radiation too). I love toxins, bacterias, parasites... pretty much all pathogens, so a biohazard page was one of the first pages I planned when making my website.
GAMES (I LIKE) WITH BIOHAZARDOUS ELEMENTS
- .flow: My fave yume nikki fan game of all time, explore the mind of a sick girl. Wander through sewers, corrupted schools, hospitals, and find her effects.
- Carrion: You play as a monster escaping a lab, crawling around and eating scientists.
- Flesh Child: You play as a strange creature leaving your mother to collect parts, in a yume nikki fangame style game.
- Metal Gear Solid 5: There are some interesting viruses in this game! I will not spoil them though ;)
- Resident Evil (series): Literally known as Biohazard in Japan, these games center around zombies, viruses, and other biohazardous things.
- The Evil Within (series): SO! MUCH! BLOOD!
- Viscera Clean-up Detail: Cleaning up biohazards? That belongs here alright!
